Kinja'd!!!

Mrs. IM wants it gone, and has instructed my assistant to donate it. So Red Cross, probably. Goodbye, old frien....er, project car I dumped a bunch of money into without getting far enough to have any real fun. Bonus me on the bike by the Kings River near Sanger, CA. I realize that you have no frame of reference, but this river is swollen as shit. There is literally mountain of snow in the Sierras waiting to flow down this channel. The reservoirs are mostly full, and it will be 90 tomorrow.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

A lot of people are going to drown this summer. When it gets hot, people head for the water, and when the rivers are flowing fast it is very dangerous.

An interesting aside about levees....

Part of my job is dealing with levee inspections. USACE has regulations against encroachments - buildings, fences, trees, etc. We regularly deem levees marginally acceptable during inspection because of encroachments. All of this is important in the southeast because encroachments make it difficult to inspect and protect the levees and tree roots can create a channel through a levee which can cause a leak.

Levees in the desert are a completely different matter and the USACE regulations don’t address their special conditions. Most people have no idea that many southern California towns are protected by levees! Trees in these areas help   stabilize desert levees and keep the material from being blown away by the wind. It’s nice to see that the channel you are observing is surrounded by vegetation. That will help keep the water in the channel where you want it to stay.

Yeah it is great all those taxpayer bonds were used for all that water storage and conservation so we will have plenty of water the next few years if we have a drought again......
